She has a particular interest and expertise in cognitive-behavioural, acceptance and commitment, schema-focused and dialectical behaviour therapies. She also has EMD-R training to Level 2.

Kate treats people with a broad range of problems. These include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Eating problems (e.g. overeating, repeated dieting, poor body image)
  • Grief and loss
  • Low self-esteem
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Panic attacks
  • Phobias
  • Psychosis (especially helping people to cope with voice hearing, helping people to examine their unusual beliefs)
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Psychological problems as a consequence of physical health problems
  • Social anxiety and shyness

Often people have more than one difficulty to contend with, Kate is especially skilled in helping people with complex problems who may have had other help before.

Background

Kate completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Warwick in 1994. Following a series of posts in the South West as an assistant psychologist; working with adults, older adults and people with learning disabilities, Kate obtained a place on the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training Course – a collaboration between the University of Plymouth, and Taunton and Somerset NHS Trust. This rigorous, 3 year training consisted of 5 clinical placements (including in physical health and neuropsychology), small and large scale research projects, including a final doctoral thesis. Kate’s research looking at adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes was published in the ‘Journal of Pediatric Psychology’ and ‘Diabetic Medicine’.

Since qualifying in 2001, Kate worked with adults with mental health problems in 2gether NHS Trust, Gloucestershire. As such she knows local services well. Kate left the NHS in April 2015 to concentrate on private practice.
